wormstewmelike Mr. Bruce Gordon's One Tall Order is pretty damn awesome! The arrangements, the playing, the singing, the production and most of all the songs are so good. Really catchy songs that (for me) harken back to my favorite albums in the mid 70's albums (CSN, Eagles, Steely Dan, etc). Don't get me wrong, they don't sound like any of those specifically. Bruce has his own style of doing things. I love it. Favorite track: I Didn't Know.

Genie in a Bottle Sunrise over the hill Another empty tank to fill Look up around the bend; here comes tomorrow again Not waking early but I don’t think I’ll be sleeping in Whatever it is I’m pursuing There’s something else I ought to be doing Fall on my face; face the abyss Made my bed but I’m so not ready for this Please protect me Like a genie in a bottle Bring the magic Trying to move the mountains in my mind Truth’s the first casualty So try to break it gradually Grist for the grind; grind to a halt You gotta take a spoonful of sugar with a grain of salt Time to fix bayonets Bound to be a few regrets Choices that I can’t defend; chances that I’d like again Not too many, but I sure remember them. And please obey me Like a genie in a bottle That Old Black Magic Trying to make some molehills of the mountains in my mind

I Didn’t Know If something’s hidden right before your eyes Underground, or in disguise Without a ripple in a clear blue sky Undisturbed – it makes me wonder why The way that you trembled in my arms Heaven surrender I didn’t know I was in love with you If something’s written in a foreign hand Too opaque to understand It’s hard to read it into words, I know One thing’s clear: There’s no two ways to go The way that you trembled in my arms Heaven surrender I didn’t know I was in love with you The world outside Won’t be denied I know I’ve tried Beyond the universe of here and now Love begins; I don’t know how You’ve got to listen to what fortune says Can’t say no, when all signs point to yes The way that you trembled in my arms Heaven surrender I didn’t know I was in love with you The world outside Won’t be denied I know I’ve tried

I’m For Gettin’ Got my wish but not what I wanted Got myself but no one to blame Can’t hold out for things to get better Or even hope things stay the same I made the worst of all the bad choices Same old thing, tested and true It never works, but seems like the right thing to do Heart made of glass, rising sun setting I’m all for gettin’ While the forgettin’s good Green light Go; foot to the metal All I had was all it would take I only wish my heart wasn’t in it I had no idea it could break I’ve never been the best or the brightest I always think there’s plenty of time But last I heard, they haven’t made stupid a crime Heart made of glass, rising sun settin’ I did the best that I could Safe in the past; that’s what I’m bettin’ I’m all for gettin’ While the forgettin’s good Can’t expect to pick ‘em every single time you choose Lucky just to hit the sweet spot of the blues Saved the day whenever a crisis Each one met and put in its place But one big thing I never took care of It wasn’t in front of my face So, this could be a valuable lesson Lost on me, ‘til I see the light I can’t do one, not one thing about it tonight Heart made of glass, rising sun settin’ I did the best that I could Safe in the past; that’s where I headin’ I’m all for gettin’ While the forgettin’s good
4.
Don’t Say We’ll Be Friends I hope that you don’t blame this guy I couldn’t help but have to try Now what we never were before We won’t be anymore. I know the hardest thing to do Make sure the things you say are true And though you know it’s going to hurt Darling, just say the words. And every boy and girl lives in a different world And I am just a man; I wouldn’t understand But I won’t see you again Don’t say we’ll be friends Don’t make idle promises If you don’t know, then don’t say yes A better offer comes along I look up, and you’re gone Now, I don’t wish we’d never met But I would just as soon forget What your convenience will allow Is no use to me now And every boy and girl lives in a different world I know I’m just a man, but I still understand That I won’t see you again Don’t say we’ll be friends And you don’t have to pretend Don’t say we’ll be friends

One Tall Order Take these keys to the highway, and everyone's the king of the road Find that fast lane to freedom is just another row to be hoed Wishing on a satellite to tell us where to turn so maybe we can take the hot rod down Every road to ruin but we never thought we'd go this way It's one tall order One small price to have to pay Free for all, from the cradle, a garden of unearthly delights Slaves of our own devices and these inalienable rights Every single secret now is everybody's business ‘cause we're living in an ad man's dream What's a right to privacy? We couldn't wait to throw it away It's one tall order One small price to have to pay Say hello, satisfaction; we finally found a way to keep up Say goodbye, satisfaction, ‘cause faster won't be faster enough Another new development that's going to revolutionize us if we didn’t know by now What a stupid life we were living only yesterday It's one tall order One small price to have to pay Loaded down with all that you can carry; more than you can take Furniture to rearrange; how many lightbulbs does it take to change? Always seem to find myself hungry all the time We get a lot more of everything, but everything is fake today It's one tall order One small price to have to pay
6.
If I Live Forever What am I doing here? With this shaky foundation and flimsy veneer Can somebody see me? Straighten up, square and tall But you better be sure where your foot’s gonna fall Supposed to be easy I’m not cryin’ but I don’t mind sayin’ it was lonely There may never come a day When I finally find a way Tell you all you mean to me Even if I live forever And I wish that I was here And not wont to disappear Thinking life is mean to me Even if I live forever Don’t fall into the mirror You’re never gonna see that face That everybody else sees I’ve been catching a break But you’ve gotta make good on the love that you take Now that I’m a receiver I’m not cryin’ but I don’t want you to think it didn’t stone me There may never come a day When I finally find a way Tell you all you mean to me Even if I live forever And I wish that I was here And not spend another year Looking at the scenery Even if I live forever There may never come a day When I finally find a way Tell you all you mean to me Even if I live forever

Cold Cold Blood Once there was a great defender Now the enemy within And you can’t tell fict from faction But you know the ficts are in Principles, they have a way Of changing every other day That bare lie you swear by Is etched in mud But something keeps pumping That cold, cold blood. Each position you abandon Swore an oath that you’d defend Knowing no one will remember And we all get fooled again Profiles in dishonesty Master Class hypocrisy Straight-laced and straight-faced You laugh, you shrug But something keeps pumping That cold, cold blood. And you know we know you’re lying As you dare us to dissent Are there any lives that matter? Just the point oh-one percent Rules are such a sucker’s game Moths into a candle flame So smart, but no heart A vampire’s club But something keeps pumping That cold, cold, cold, cold blood.
8.
One Last Dance When the green turns gray And the sun burns clay And no rivers like to run Way down by the ocean side No more wooden ships to ride One false step towards a solution One last dance One more jukes in the box One more chance Money talks One more dance No more ticks on the clocks Too late or is it not too late? History callin’ We’re all in The same limousine When the blue turns brown And the sun burns down Will we quit before we’ve begun? More eyes open every day Give wings unto feet of clay One small step in our evolution One last dance No more hops for the sox One more chance Break the locks One last dance No more jukes in the box One more chance Money talks One last dance No more ticks on the clocks
9.
Hold On To Me It is very, very quiet Hands move slow, dispensing time Another night outlasts us Another day slips past us Bells that toll us in the present Ring their echoes to the past The moving hand retraces Shadows fall on faces Hold on to me If you ever fall Hold on to me I can’t see me not loving you always, forever One small step into tomorrow Everything changes in a day Memory flows about us Clock ticks on without us Every story has an ending Just can’t stand to say goodbye Fates we never know of Hands we can’t let go of Hold on to me If I ever fall Hold on to me I can’t see us not loving each other forever I can’t see how, where, why not, we should be together
10.
You Gotta Believe If you really want the things you want Stop fooling around If you only want a place to hide Then the best place is in the ground The future’s coming but it’s so obscure You’d give it everything you’ve got if you could only be sure But sometimes, to make it happen You gotta believe The very thing that makes you feel alive Makes you feel like dying You gotta wonder what you came here for If it’s not worth the trying You know the outlook’s not a brilliant one There’s every reason why this isn’t a risk you should run But sometimes, to make it happen You gotta believe If you want a dream that survives You have to be there when it arrives You see it dwindle as you drain it down What’s left in the tank? You’ve got to pony up your courage again If you do, would it break the bank? You’d take the chance but you remember when You’d shoot the moon and wind up disappointed again But sometimes, to make it happen You gotta believe

about

ONE TALL ORDER
In 2021, Mr. Bruce Gordon, in the rush of excitement we all felt once we were able to venture out again after the pandemic, set about recording a new album of original tunes, working with ace drummer/engineer/co-producer Kevin Jarvis and bass player/singer extraordinaire Teresa Cowles.

He also enlisted the assistance of musical luminaries Evie Sands, Jason Berk, Norman Kelsey, Peter Holsapple, Adam Marsland, Probyn Gregory, and Carl Byron, whose stellar instrumental and vocal contributions elevated these songs to a higher plane.
